The patient was a 25-year-old woman. Thoracotomy surgical records indicate that upon opening the anterior mediastinum, a large mass measuring approximately 6-7 cm in diameter was found below the innominate vein and anterior to the aortic root. The mass was firm with an incomplete capsule. The tumor had invaded the superior vena cava, pericardium, aorta, and adjacent lung tissue, with deep infiltration. Intraoperatively, lymphoma or malignant thymoma was considered. Pathological diagnosis: primary mediastinal/thymic large B-cell lymphoma. Cost details: The outpatient puncture biopsy cost more than $2,000 (including over $1,200 for the puncture needle alone, fully self-paid). According to the family, the actual total cost, including the thoracotomy biopsy, exceeded $40,000. The patient passed away two and a half years later.
